March 21, 2014 - ELCHK Community Center

On March 21, 2014, we went to the ELCHK community center to perform the elderly people. Besides that, we also played different games to interact with them and have fun with them. It was a great opportunity for us to interact with these elderly families because a lot of times they had nothing to besides going to these centers to hangout with other elderly people. Also, we were a huge source of entertainment for them as they hardly get any visitors from international schools. It was a very good experience for us to play music and entertain them with fun games.

Dec 6 2013 - Mentally Handicapped

This service opportunity was pretty similar to the ones that we did last year but this time everyone got to play a nice solo for the mentally disabled people. I really liked this service more than the one we did before at the Mei Lam festival because I thought these people enjoyed more than the audience in the Mei Lam festival. During this service, we played some Christmas music for them in which they had a whole lot of fun dancing to it. however, when we played some songs that were not the "classics", they didn't know it and they actually didn't really cared what we played and they just clapped when we finished our music. I think that next time, we should try to focus more on the classic music played during the certain period so that the audience will be able to enjoy it more.

Nov 9, 2013 - Mei Lam Carnival

This service was one of the more different kinds of band performances that we did because the audience was definitely much larger than that of other services. Also, we played for the public meaning that everyone close or who actually lives in the Mei Lam village would get to see our performance. Even though this experience was unique, I could tell from the audience that they didn't really enjoy the music as much as we played to a specific group of people. First of all, this performance was outdoors and we couldn't really even hear ourselves due to the wind noise and the crow talking to each other all the time. Even though this service opportunity wasn't as good as I expected it to be, I still gained many experiences from it and that performing at a larger audience was actually harder than giving out music to a smaller group of people. I really hope that next time, I would be able to perform to a more specific group of people such as the mentally disabled or the elderly.
